Kanye West releases 'bully' on Spotify and distributes the vinyl in stores

Music news

How is Kanye West’s ‘bully’ working out? Have we canceled Ye?

The publication of ‘bully’ by Kanye West, now known as Ye, on streaming platforms in a rush last Saturday, one day after reaching physical stores in vinyl format, leaves us with the first statistical data. Has Ye been canceled by the audience after his anti-Semitic statements? Have people accepted your apology? Are people separating work and artist?

Kanye West has not reached Spotify’s global top 10 with any of his songs, as on other occasions, but we cannot speak of failure either. For example, when ‘DONDA’ was released in August 2021, 6 of its songs entered Spotify’s Global Top 10, led by ‘Jail’ at number 2, with 8.7 million streams on the first day. ‘Hurricane’ with The Weeknd was in position 3 with 6.5 million streams. All of the songs from ‘DONDA’ reached Spotify’s Global top 75, with the last one appearing at number 66.

This time the figures are much more modest. 16 of the album’s 18 songs hit Spotify’s Global top 200 on Saturday, and this Sunday – the first full day – a couple of the album’s songs have climbed instead of falling.

You can’t talk about failure when you have 16 songs on global charts, but it is true that no song exceeds 3 million daily streams or reaches the top 20. As for countries most enthusiastic about Ye, we must of course talk about the United States. ‘bully’ has been direct number 1 on Apple Music in 62 countries, including Spain, the UK and the USA, ranking at number 2 in Brazil or number 3 in Japan.
