Six years have passed since Duffy revealed to the world the reason for her disappearance from public life, when she said that years ago she had been kidnapped, raped and drugged, as well as transferred to another country. Since then, the author of the pop phenomenon ‘Rockferry’, one of the best-selling albums of 2008 in the world, has led a life away from the media, but now she has decided to step forward and tell the nightmare she experienced in a documentary.
Disney+ UK will release the film under the direction of Northern Irish filmmaker Gill Callan, with production by Rare TV and Stellify, in which Duffy will tell the story of her kidnapping in the first person for the first time; It will be his first media appearance since 2015.
The documentary, which is in production, will cover Duffy’s life, “from his upbringing in Wales, to his meteoric rise to fame and his retirement from public life after his harrowing experience.” It will feature interviews with Duffy, his family, friends and industry colleagues, accompanied by archival footage.
“This film will give Duffy the opportunity to tell his story in his own words,” says Sean Doyle, vice president of content at Disney+ UK. Director Gill Callan added: “Duffy’s life has been marked by success and fame, but also by pain, rebellion and an unwavering sense of identity. I am drawn to the tension between vulnerability and confidence in her story, and how a person can be deeply affected by their experiences and still find a powerful, expressive voice that is unmistakably their own.”
Last year, Duffy was briefly seen online to promote a remix of ‘Mercy’.
