Fuji? he deserves to be loved

Fuji? is a 24-year-old producer from Madrid who will release his second album this year under the title ‘Super Sweet’. That means he was just 18 when he collaborated with Rusowsky on ‘Agüita de coco’ (2020) and just 20 when he debuted a 7-track album titled ‘hanami’ (2022).

A follower of Japanese culture, at that time he wanted to evoke “the traditional act of contemplating the flowering of sakuras: a spectacle of absolute beauty and extreme fragility, which lasts just a few days.” And is that Fuji? It recreates the transience of digital pop in these times when everything seems ephemeral, but from the reflection that music is by nature “an ephemeral art, a sound instant that disappears as soon as it is heard.”

Something debatable when we look at the charm of the main singles from their next album. ‘Momiji’, marked by the chorus “I deserve to be loved, I deserve your love”, has a delicious beat that refers to the 90s and a deeply evocative keyboard in the background. Its name refers to “the contemplation of the red leaves of the Japanese maple in autumn, just before they fall.”

‘Tú y yo’, their latest single so far, and our Song of the Day today, raises the bar. And can we normally link to Fuji? with the Russia IDK collective, in this song he adds a funk bass, a certain disco rhythm and a beach atmosphere that brings him much closer to the most hedonistic moments of Avalanches.

‘Super Sweet’ (Coequipier Records, 2026), which will be available on April 17, will contain both ‘Momiji’ and ‘Tú y yo’, and from their label they advance that the album will include everything from this “funk and pink-toned disco to R&B, hip-
cinematic hop or even bolero.
