The Irish electronic punk band KNEECAP and international political figures such as Pablo Iglesias and Jeremy Corbyn will embark this week on the “Our America” solidarity flotilla, an initiative that transports tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba.
The convoy carries food, medicine and other basic supplies at a particularly delicate time for the island, which is going through one of the deepest economic crises in its recent history, aggravated by diplomatic tensions with the United States.
Along with Corbyn and Iglesias, dozens of legislators, unionists and international activists will participate. Among them are also the Colombian politician Clara López, the American commentator Hasan Piker and the union leader Chris Smalls. The group plans to arrive on the island this weekend amid new political threats towards Havana launched by Donald Trump.
The flotilla will also have the participation of Cuban Americans for Cuba, a network of Cuban-American activists that will collaborate in the delivery of supplies and in various activities planned in the Cuban capital. The initiative seeks to make visible the humanitarian crisis in the country and reinforce international solidarity with the Cuban population.
