Ronnie Spector’s film is already a reality, practically. Although there were rumors that Zendaya was going to play the charismatic singer of The Ronettes, today Deadline has confirmed that Barry Jenkins, director of the acclaimed and awarded ‘Moonlight’, will take care of the realization of the film.
According to information from the American media, both Zendaya and Jenkins had been wanting to work together for a while. As for the film, the story would be based on the Mector memories, published in 1990, and will try to “immerse the audience in what could have been the life of the singer with the problematic producer Phil Spector”, in contrast to a “traditional biopic.”
Before I died in 2022 after a brief battle against cancer, the vocalist had personally chosen Zendaya to play it on the big screen. Dave Kajanich (‘Sigha’, ‘To the bones’) will take care of the script.
