Fontaines DC publishes the second preview of ‘Romance’, the album that will be released on August 23. After ‘Starburster’ comes ‘Favourite’, which will become your new “favorite” Fontaines DC song from the second zero.
‘Favourite’ is the most commercial song on ‘Romance’, which means that it recovers the poppier sound of The Cure. For Fontaines DC, the theme proposes “an endless sound, a continuous cycle from euphoria to sadness, two worlds that spin forever.”
‘Favourite’ seems dedicated to a person who has broken Grian Chatten’s heart. He says that “misery” has turned him into another “marked man” and that he is always “looking over his shoulder,” on the lookout for the next disappointment. But in the lyrics he addresses other topics. He is concerned about the “change of cities” or the simplicity of times past.
Just as nostalgic as ‘Favourite’ is its video clip filmed in Madrid, where Fontaines DC guitarist Carlos O’Connell is from. Directed by the band itself, the video for ‘Favourite’ intersperses images of its members’ childhood, with others from Fontaines’ recent time in Madrid. The Milky Way or the Escombro skatepark come out, among other places.
