You want a latino papi: Robyn joins CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso

‘Blow My Mind’ by Robyn is the song of a thousand versions. After its original release in 2002, in the key of pop with echoes of trip-hop, Robyn has completely turned it around this year on her album ‘Sexistial’, taking it into the future. ‘Blow My Mind’ now sounds transformed into a cyborg beast seasoned with funk licks, Japanese voice-overs and rhythm changes that provide different airs.

Now comes a third version, the remix of the remix, which features an unexpected collaboration: that of the Argentine duo CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso. The authors of ‘FREE SPIRITS’ add new verses and voices to the accelerated version.

Perhaps the most notable thing about CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso’s contribution is not their total integration into the song, which sounds a bit like goop, but rather that the Argentines throw verses in English, a language that today, in their own words, they do not master. Rhymes like “I just wanna bite you, bitch and be your little bitch / I’ll squeeze you, girl, then like a dog I’ll sniff you, babe” or “You want a Latino papi / I got that sure wasabi / I’ll fold you like origami” are their bet to get closer to the Anglo-Saxon public that probably doesn’t know them yet.

‘Blow My Mind’ is curiously the third cut from ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ that Robyn recycles, as ‘Should Have Known’ was re-recorded for her fourth album and musical rebirth, ‘Robyn’ (2005), and then a new version of ‘Keep This Fire Burning’ was used on a reissue of that album.
