Yes, Alavedra’s new EP is “Very good”

Among this month’s recommended concerts from the Madrid Stages cycle by Vibra Mahou is the one in Alavedra. They perform this Friday, April 17 at the Café La Palma in Madrid. It will surely be bursting at the seams.

We already follow the group of Dani (Daniel Belenguer), And now they have surpassed themselves with a 6-track EP in which almost every track could be our Song of the Day.

With influences such as The Strokes (‘Confía’) and surf rock (‘There are people’), choruses released with a certain humor such as “There are people who deserve the things that happen to them” stand out. I feel a special weakness for the “sing along” that the whistling cut called ‘Retiro’ invites (“I just look at my phone so I don’t think!!!”), but starting at the beginning, let’s select the first single, ‘Dame un Segundo’, as Song of the Day.

In this case, Alavedra set out to give us “a fresh and fun anthem for those who have not gotten over their ex, to let off steam by dancing and shouting it at the top of their lungs.” Carolina Durante’s existential ‘Fuck I don’t know’ transforms here into a ‘Fuck I love you’ full of carpet insecurities.

The great asset of the song – apart from narrating what is defined as an “attack of jealousy” – is having verses that look like the chorus, and vice versa. When you think that the song has already given everything (“so I’m sorry, I love you very much…”), comes the part of “It feels big to me / I feel a great emptiness / this has only happened to me with you”, which plays with two different melodies throughout these 2 and a half minutes of composition. Tricks by artists who are not exactly new to make the song play on a loop.
