Britney Spears was arrested in March for driving under the influence, and now the police video of her arrest has been released by US authorities. Several images of the material have begun to circulate on social networks, within a video obtained by The New York Times that includes up to three hours of recordings.
In the images, Spears responds in a confusing manner to the agents’ questions, alternating incoherent phrases, changes in tone and accents. She also insists that she was fine to drive, even though police had stopped her for weaving between lanes.
The video also includes surreal moments, such as the one in which the singer offers the agents to go to her house, eat lasagna and use her pool, while she refuses to get out of the vehicle for several minutes. According to the report, his attitude and responses led officers to conclude that he was under the combined influence of alcohol and a stimulant. On the other hand, perhaps the images are not as “erratic” and alarming as the media makes them out to be.
During the stop, the officer claims to have detected the smell of alcohol in the car. Spears replies: “I can probably drink four bottles of wine and take care of you. I’m an angel.” The report details that Spears claimed to have taken three prescription medications that day, including Prozac and Adderall.
Following the arrest, Spears was released the next morning and accepted a plea deal on a lesser charge, thus avoiding additional prison time. The pact includes 12 months of probation and the obligation to complete a three-month substance abuse rehabilitation program. Spears voluntarily entered a rehabilitation center in mid-April and left the clinic at the end of the month.
