Usher has spoken in a new interview with Forbes about the influence of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs on his career, without thinking of any questionable act by the American businessman and rapper, currently serving time in prison as guilty of transportation for prostitution. This was not the only charge of which he was accused.
When asked what came to mind when he heard Diddy’s name, Usher responded with one word: “Legacy.” Luckily, he elaborated on his response: “A lot of times, I think certain people are judged and maybe not recognized for the greatness that they offer. “I have nothing negative to say about Sean Combs because my experience has not been what the world has seen,” he continued.
Sean Combs was convicted of transportation for prostitution in mid-July of last year. However, he was also being tried for crimes of organized crime and sex trafficking, for which he was declared innocent. During that same period, the tycoon was also accused of having sexually abused 120 people, including 25 minors.
«I’m not saying he’s a perfect man. “I’m not saying that any of us are flawed, but I can’t help but recognize the important contributions this man made to black entrepreneurs, for whom we have turned culture and ideas into something tangible,” Usher said.
He explains that Combs was like a “mentor” to him who reminded him of “a really tough teacher,” and that he was able to learn from him while his career was taking off: “That’s what I choose to remember, and I respect his name because I realized what I learned as a businessman before I understood what business was was a result of seeing the incredible things he did.”
