Tune-Yards has announced that his new album, ‘Better Dreaming’, is put on sale on May 16. In ‘Better Dreaming’, the duo formed by Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner recovers the freshness and spontaneity of their best works, such as ‘Whokil L’ (2011), Everlasting Records tells.
The first single of ‘Better Dreaming’ is ‘Limelight’, a colorful funk that resorts to the rhythm to “survive.” Merrill Garbus, showing his business talent, says that ‘Limelight’ almost stays out of the album because it seemed too “trivial” next to the “multiple genocides that are active worldwide” (?). The positive response of his relatives to the song, particularly his son, convinced him to keep her in the album.
Ironically, ‘limelight’ expresses a very positive and necessary message in these times, that “no one is free until everyone is.” With his infectious Funk rhythm, inspired by the music of George Clinton, the children’s cutting and the vivacity of his arrangements, ‘Limelight’ is the best type of song: danceable but with a message. It is also an obvious single of which Tune-Yards should not doubt a second.
