On April 12, ‘Back to Black’, the film about Amy Winehouse starring Marisa Abela, will be released in UK cinemas. Sam Taylor-Johnson, director of the John Lennon biopic ‘Nowhere Boy’ and ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, has directed the film based on a script written by Matt Greenhalgh.
Starting today, the first trailer for ‘Back to Black’ can be seen on YouTube, where various stages of Winehouse’s life are advanced, from her musical beginnings to her famous shocked reaction at the Grammy ceremony when she heard that she was the winner of the Award for Record of the Year, precisely for ‘Back to Black’.
The paparazzi siege of Winehouse, specifically at the time when the singer wore her bangs dyed blonde; her famous concert at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London, in 2007, at the time released on DVD; or of course her turbulent relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil, are also represented in the first trailer for the film.
Marisa Abela, known for her role in the HBO series ‘Industry’, not only plays Winehouse in ‘Back to Black’ but also sings Winehouse’s songs included in the film, imitating her voice. Also in the cast are Jack O’Connell playing Blake, Eddie Marsan as Amy’s father, Mitch, Juliet Cowan as her mother, Janis, and Lesley Manville as her grandmother, Cynthia.
‘Back to Black’ has had the approval of Winehouse’s family. Mitch and Janis have been “excited” about the release of the film for “celebrating Amy’s extraordinary musical legacy and showcasing her talent in the way she deserves.”
