Tommy Richman conquered the world with the release of 'MILLION DOLLAR BABY', which quickly rose to No. 1 on Spotify's Global Top and subsequently debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 100. It is currently at No. 3. Now, he has continued his rise with 'DEVIL IS A LIE', a banger that seems straight out of another time.
In the video for 'DEVIL IS A LIE', Richman continues the nineties aesthetic that also characterized that of 'MILLION DOLLAR BABY', with everything that entails: grainy video, lowriders and military pants. The music could be placed in that period, but also as something slightly later. The minimalist and bouncy beat at the same time is reminiscent of those of The Neptunes, the duo of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo.
This is no coincidence. The 'Virginia sound' that Williams popularized in the late 90s and early 2000s has resonated deeply with Tommy Richman, also a native of Virginia, and it seems that the 24-year-old is revitalizing this type of groove. Vocally, we can find that the harmonies and melodies are just as infectious as those of his great mainstream hit.
It's practically impossible for 'DEVIL IS A LIE' to do as well commercially as 'MILLION DOLLAR BABY', but you never know. The next thing we can expect from Richman is his highly anticipated debut album, 'COYOTE', with no definitive release date yet.
