Eight years after their debut single, ‘Pícala’; six after the iconic ‘School Disrespect’; five years after his “piquito” with Rosalía; four years after his improbable collaboration with Madonna and three after she called Tokischa in the middle of an interview in La Revuelta; also four years of ‘Delincuente’ and ‘La Combi Versace’; three years after the remix of ‘Chulo’… Tokischa is preparing his debut album, ‘Amor y drug’, which can be heard starting next April 16.
‘Love and Drugs’ is presented with this dramatic cover, which shatters any expectations of what Tokischa’s aesthetic has been during this era and throughout his entire career. Of the 17 cuts that appear on the tracklist, three of them are already known: ‘Celos’ and ‘Miami’ are both thuggish dembows in the style of ‘Linda’, and the new single, ‘Surfboard’ with Skrillex, proposes a melodic reggaeton style; Skrillex’s hand is evident in its synthetic finish.
‘Love and Drugs’, which includes an unreleased participation with Kase.O, excludes Tokischa’s recent collaborations with Ice Spice (‘Thootie’) and Nathy Peluso (‘De Maravisha’), and also leaves out ‘Flackito Jodye’, a song that has appeared on A$AP Rocky’s album.
