The pre-Grammys ceremony left, as always, big winners in the alternative categories. The first winners of the night were Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for their collaboration ‘Defying Gravity’ as Best Pop Duo. They defeated ‘Golden’, which was later able to take revenge in the category for Best Soundtrack Song.
Among the few people who have stopped by to collect their award for the pre-ceremony, we must talk about FKA twigs. ‘Eusexua’ has won the award for Best Electronic Album. Very excited, the artist has encouraged other creators to follow her intention: “don’t give up, follow your vision”, and has taken it with sportsmanship that the presenter was not able to pronounce her name.
Tame Impala won Best Electronic Recording for ‘End of Summer’, but they weren’t there to pick it up. Neither did Lady Gaga, who won Best Pop Dance Recording for ‘Abracadabra’, but it was reserved for her performance later in the night. Gesaffelstein’s was the Best Remix for the same song.
The one who was able to collect her award was Gloria Estefan for ‘Raíces’ as Best Latin Tropical Album. She expressed her excitement as on the first day, “50 years later.” Very deservedly, Natalia Lafourcade has won Best Latin Album for the excellent ‘Cancionera’. In an effort to reach out to new generations, Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso have the Best Alternative Album for ‘Papota’ and they have come to collect the award, dedicating it to Argentina.
Other big winners of this pre-ceremony were The Cure, winning the alternative awards for the song ‘Alone’ and the album ‘Songs of a Lost World’. A message of gratitude was read on behalf of Robert Smith, who had never smelled a Grammy in his life. Adding symbolic victories in subcategories such as Turnstile, it must be recognized that this pre-awards ceremony contains the same interest as the main ceremony. Today there were many who celebrated these supposedly minor awards on networks.
As for performances, Zara Larsson has taken ‘Midnight Sun’ to the banal world with an orchestra, performing a solemn, gala version, which we don’t know if any fans have won. As for the show, this first part of the ceremony does have a more lo-fi flavor…
