The Weeknd postpones his album and insists on the end of The Weeknd

‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’, The Weeknd’s new album, preceded by three singles to date, had to go on sale on January 24. Out of respect for the victims of the Los Angeles fires, all those who have lost their homes and the 150,000 evacuees, the artist announces that he will delay the album a week. Right now it is planned for January 31. In addition, the presentation concert that was to take place at the Rose Bowl on January 25 is canceled.

Indicates The Weeknd on social networks: “This city has always been a deep source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with anyone who has been affected in these difficult times.”

He continues: “My main goal will continue to be supporting the recovery of these communities and helping these incredible people rebuild.” Indeed, a multitude of videos and images of The Weeknd have circulated around the city of Los Angeles, for example that iconic video in Hollywood that he made with Lana del Rey for ‘Lust for Life’ (in the image).

On the other hand, in an interview with Variety, The Weeknd indicated this weekend that he could end The Weeknd’s project as soon as the ‘Hurry Up, Tomorrow’ era ends, which culminates the trilogy that has already included ‘After Hours’ (2020) and ‘Dawn FM’ (2022). The artist has stated exactly: «Everything must represent a challenge. And for me, right now, The Weeknd, whatever he is, is dominated. Nobody is going to do The Weeknd better than me, and I’m not going to make him better than he already is today. I think I have overcome every challenge with this character and that is why I am so excited about the movie (that accompanies the album), because I love this challenge.

The Weeknd had already given clues about his tiredness of the alias The Weeknd in 2022. Specifically, he said that he would like to adopt a name as forceful as “Madonna, Cher or Prince, without surnames” and that he liked his simple first name, Abel. Although it is difficult to believe the artists in this drift of advertisements, it must be remembered that C. Tangana has not published anything as C. Tangana since he released “El Madrileño” and asked to be called by that other alias; and that Kanye West now signs his albums on streaming platforms both with his usual name and with the new one, Ye.
