Other videos with Halloween motifs are released these days. After the visible ‘Disease’ by Lady Gaga, The Weeknd finally publishes his audiovisual collaboration with Anitta. The video clip is unusually lo-fi, in homage to B movies.
‘São Paulo’, released at The Weeknd’s celebrated massive concert in the city, is a surprisingly dark and driving song, quite different from what you might expect from them. It is as if both have decided to take a common ambition further. She, the Brazilian funk rhythms, since the song also includes an interpolation by Tati Quebra Barraco. He, that sinister character, when not bloody or aged, that he has shown in the video clips of his last two albums. Not in vain, the album that is going to be released now will close what is considered a trilogy.
The video directed by Freeka Tet takes things even further and further. Anitta appears pregnant with something very bad, and The Weeknd’s feature in it is something to see.
The collaboration between the two has been quite improvised and it seems that neither of them thought it could come to anything. It started as an idea from producer Mike Dean (Kanye West, Madonna), who thought it was a good idea to ask Anitta for some verses. “What he sent was so good that we created the song with it,” she says, while she adds, as Billboard reports: “I wrote some joking verses, but I never imagined they would become so serious. Suddenly, I received the song and I loved it. “I feel very honored.”
As everyone knows, The Weeknd’s new album, ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’, has been previously released with two singles, the luminous ‘Dancing in the Flames’ and the collaboration with Playboi Carti, ‘Timeless’. The latter is being twice as successful, as it already has almost 160 million streams compared to the 90 of the previous one, despite having been published later. As for the length, we still have no tracklist or release date.
