The artistic idyll of guitarricadelafuente and Troye Sivan continues. After the collaboration of Álvaro Lafuente in ‘In My Room’ by Sivan, included in his album ‘Subthing to Give Each Other’ (2023) and that both interpreted together in the 2024 spring edition Sound, Sivan returns the favor to the Valencian intervening in a remix of ‘Pipe Dream’, a single fourth single of ‘Spanish Leather’ “Guitarrica” album.
‘Midsummer Pipe Dream’ does not radically alter the original production of the song, but simply adds Sivan’s voice, which interprets the saying, the third verse and makes choirs in the chorus. Meanwhile, in ‘Midsummer Pipe Dream’, guitarricadelafuente is delivered to “voluptuousness”, Sivan brings a more emotional dimension than physical, singing about a person who calls him and makes him “blush”, and the one who cannot be removed from the head. Troye thus rounds the story of a sensual love that looks like a dream or an “impossible fantasy.”
Sivan does not appear in the video clip of ‘Midsummer Pipe Dream’, shot on the Costa Brava Catalan. The focus falls completely in the figure of “guitaric”, including framed frames that touch the voyeuristic. Álvaro, who, in some scenes, looks a sweatshirt with number 69, underlining the erotic component of the video, he touches the sun, pedaling his bicycle and, above all, embodies the “Efebo with solar curls” that Ft Marinetti describes in ‘Spain fast and futuristic bull’, the book that the source leaffet in several scenes of the video.
The clip, directed by Really Sorry, is allegedly “simple and summer, but is loaded with poetic images, full of symbolism. Among the outstanding images, the viscous snails that slide through Álvaro’s chest, the caterpillars devouring their watermelon, or the white pigeons that emerge in the final sequence, when the camera adopts night vision. In the last scene, Álvaro wields a sword on the beach that refers to Narsil, the legendary sheet of ‘The Lord of the Rings’. All these elements build a video full of naturalistic surrealism that raises the history of the song, in itself a “dream.”
