The Oasis reunion immediately made us think of the only one that is even more impossible: the Smiths. Well, it turns out that it is not so impossible after all.
“Coincidentally,” Morrissey posted today that “in June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a generous offer to Morrissey and Johnny Marr to tour the world as The Smiths throughout 2025.” The statement, written in the third person, continued: “Morrissey said yes to the offer. Marr ignored the offer.”
And it goes on to add insult to injury: “Morrissey is on a sold-out US tour in November. Johnny Marr is New Order’s tour guest.” NME has contacted Johnny Marr’s representatives for confirmation, but a quick look at his Twitter account may be all that’s needed to understand what’s going on.
When someone mentioned the Smiths reunion, Johnny Marr replied with a photo of the pro-Brexit populist politician Nigel Farage. His party is called Reform UK. In other words, he would be saying that he is not willing to tour with Morrissey, because of his conservative bias.
As for the rest of the Smiths members you see in the photo, Andy Rourke passed away in 2023, while Mike Joyce seems not to have been invited to the party.

Holy moly! Morrissey was up for a meeting with Johnny Marr, but Johnny said no. This is quite astounding. Statement from Moz attached. pic.twitter.com/5PHKbzycJh
