The Smashing Pumpkins will release their new album, “Aghori Mhori Mei”next Friday, August 2nd.
The Chicago band’s new work will contain ten new compositions and follows last year’s release of the excessive “Atum”which offered thirty-three songs.
“Aghori Mhori Mei” is the first album by The Smashing Pumpkins since the departure of guitarist Jeff Schroeder in the fall of 2023. Schroeder will be replaced on the tour by Kiki Wong. Beginning July 29, The Smashing Pumpkins will perform alongside Green Day or Rancid on The Saviors Tour.
Billy Corgan has said that for the new album he has been inspired by the beginnings of the band, which published its debut “Gish” in 1991 and achieved success with “Siamese Dream” (93): “In writing this new album, I was intrigued by the old axiom: ‘you can’t go home again’, which I’ve personally found to be true in practice, but I thought, well, what if we tried it anyway? And not so much looking back in sentimentality, but more as a means of moving forward, to see if in the balance between success and failure, our ways of making music circa 1990-1996 would still inspire something revealing.”
