Just one year after his acclaimed debut ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’ (2024), the British band The Last Dinner Party has announced its continuation, ‘From the pyre’, which is put on sale on October 17.
The Last Dinner Party explains that ‘from the pyre’ is a “collection of stories united by the concept of album as myth.” And he adds: “‘The pyre’ (the pyre) is in itself an allegorical place from which these stories arise, a site of violence and destruction, but also of regeneration, passion and light.”
According to the group, the letters of ‘from the pyre’ «invoke rifles, hoces, sailors, saints, jeans, floods, mother earth, arc Juana and scoring fires». That is, ‘From the pyre’ will be The Last Dinner Party to 200%.
It is, at least, the first advance, ‘This is The Killer Speaking’. A very recognizable song by The Last Dinner Party for his Glam style and his lyrics full of medieval metaphors stained with blood and violence. This is the story of a scoring woman looking for revenge. And the images are as graphic as that of a “murderer” that has “broken down” to its prey. Humillation is extreme in one of the best phrases of the song: “You seem like a holy sobbing, with your infectious eye.”
Abigail Morris, vocalist of The Last Dinner Party, prints ‘This is the killer speaking’ all his personality and theatricality. Although the song is continuous -perhaps it could not be otherwise -overflows with its interpretation. And his violent concept is perfectly embodied in phrases like “if you had been honest, you would have saved this bleeding.” But, then, we wouldn’t have this song either.
