Fades is a group born in Mallorca that has become popular on social networks offering its own vision of Hyperpop and other Anglo -Saxon rhythmic styles, singing letters in Mallorcan. The song that has launched his career is ‘Catalonian Girls’, an adaptation to the Catalan – in his dialectical variation – of ‘California Gurls’ (2010) by Katy Perry that went viral in Tiktok, but then they have continued to grow thanks to their great own material.
The three components of Fades are Ferran Pi, Vicenç Calafell and Àngel Exojo, three students of Catalan Philology – two Mallorcans and a Catalan – who met at the University of the Balearic Islands and connected through their popular and interest fondness and their interest and their interest Common in the confluence between pop, dance and activism LGTBQ+. They seek to create popular music, “to listen to in a parkineo or in the supermarket”, but that highlights their specifically Mallorcan and queer identity. His first song is titled ‘Gay Revenge’.
The peculiarity of the Fades project could be verified in one of the many concerts they offered in 2024, in the Upload Room in Barcelona, as part of the concert program for the DANA. Fades gave one of the best recitals of the Night armed with Autotune, choreographies and outifts that would have loved Ashley Tisdale for a red carpet. They versed Nathy Peluso in Catalan, of course they recovered ‘Catalonian Girls’ and sang their own letter on the basis of ‘(I Got That) boom boom’ by Britney Spears. Because before the Tiktok generation there was the generation ‘Two blondes of chest hair’.
In his two two albums, ‘Amigues I Autotune’ (2023) and ‘Metallix’ (2024), abounds autotune in industrial tons, but also humor and impudence in the lyrics, which talk about leaving “from Farra” and dance to infinity, and a refined ear to design juicy and forceful beats inspired by Sophie’s music and the deconstructed club. In his repertoire, K-Pop (‘Lollipop’), Favela Funk (‘MINIFALDA’) or PC MUSIC (‘FRikis’), among many other things.
In one of his best songs, ‘Artificial’, the song of the day for today, Fades proposes a high cylinder production, mixing beats from Eurodance and Deconstruced Club with the roar of an engine. The garage inspiration also sneaks into a letter that includes references to GPS and “Ride Rides”, although the story of ‘artificial’ is, above all, the story of an impossible love: “You drive, you grab me your hand, you change your Marches, I want you to understand that I am yours, but you are so cold that it seems artificial ».
It will not be cold, but very heat, sure, at the concert that Fades will offer on February 26 in the Razzmatazz room in Barcelona. They share a poster with the Losango DJ. Tickets are on sale but beware because they are about to run out.
