‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ is Netflix’s new cinematographic success. It is an animated musical about a group of K-Pop, Gift/X, which sings during the day and, at night, hunting demons. His rival is the musical group Saja Boys, composed of three undercover demons.
The women’s group is formed by Rumi, visually represented by Arden Cho and whose sung voice is from EJAE; Look, who has the appearance of May Hong and the voice of Audrey Nuna; and Zoey, physically represented by Ji-Young Yoo, with the voice of Rei Ami.
Both the ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ film and its soundtrack premiered on June 20 and have not stopped climbing positions on the lists. In Netflix, the film has since its premiere within the Top 10 of more viewed productions.
In Spotify, 7 of the 12 themes that make up the soundtrack appear on the global top 50: ‘Golden’ of Hunt/X is in position 2 and ‘Your idol’, by Saja Boys, in 4. In the United States, the album has just climbed up to third place among the most successful in the country, only surpassed by Morgan Wallen and the new launch of Lorde. In Spain, the album has promoted from 34 to 17 in its second week on the list.
The main theme of ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ is ‘Takedown’, of the popular K-Pop Twice band (which is real, not fictitious). Twice also contributes to the repertoire their single of 2024 ‘Strategy’. Among the songs “interpreted” by the characters of the film are the urban ‘How it’s done’ by Occ/X, which also sings the eighties ‘Golden’, and the bubbling ‘soda pop’ by Saja Boys.
Directed by Maggie Kang and animated by Chris Appelhans, ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ promises to be one of the pop hits of the season.
