He Ciutat Flamenco festival will once again transform Barcelona into the capital of flamenco for a few days, specifically from October 17 to 26.
Barcelona is preparing to host the 32nd edition of the Ciutat Flamenco Festival, which this year takes place from October 17 to 26 with a renewed focus on the body, movement and flamenco experimentation. Organized by the Music Workshop and under the artistic direction of Flamenco Projects –led by Marta Piñol and Jose Manuel Álvarez–, the festival turns the city into an epicenter of flamenco creation and avant-garde.
This edition is decidedly committed to dance and dance, with a program that focuses on proposals that move between tradition and the contemporary, from the neighborhoods of Sant Andreu to Nou Barris, passing through unconventional spaces such as La Nau Bostik or the Ateneu Popular 9 Barris.
Antonio Molina “El Choro” will open the festival at the SAT! with “Turn on”a show about combustion as a creative act. On Saturday the 18th, Fabra i Coats will host an intense night with Rocío Luna, Sara Jiménez and an electronic flamenco session by Cristina López & Carlos Cuenca.
Vanesa Aibar will take dance to the field of science with “Crystallization IV”while Jose Carlos Hanza will mix piano, clapping and percussion in “Piano in the Street”. Jose Manuel Alvarezfor its part, will pay tribute to the photographer Rene Robert with “Catch and Escape”.
The festival also inaugurates Battle Citya competition that challenges the limits of flamenco through improvisation and the arts of movement. Aina Nunez and other female creators star Flamenco Districta space for risk and creative intimacy.
The closing will be a real party: from flamenco circus with Crackling up to a session DJ Txarly Brown that will turn the Ateneu into a dance floor.
Furthermore, the cycle Jondo Thursday will extend until the end of the year as a meeting space for the local scene, and on November 9 it will be held The Flamenco Suite with the Barcelona Municipal Band and the singer Rafael de Utrera.
