The nepobaby north West adds ingenuity and pepper to ‘eusexua’ by FKA twigs

FKA TWIGS has published what is another of the first albums of the year. Who said that January used to be a boring month? Between Bad Bunny, Rose Gray, FKA TWIGS or next week, The Weeknd and Amaia, it is not being at all.

‘Eusexua’ was presented by singles as excellent as the homonym, clearly one of the best songs of 2024, and also the sublime ‘Perfect Stranger’. Its sound is clearly influenced by Björk and the novelty electronics, from the Madchester sound to the rave through the techno or spirituality of ‘Ray of Light’. Especially ‘Girl Feels Good’ could be in that Madonna album.

But it is Björk, I insist, its main reference, both ‘homogenic’ (‘Drums of Death’, ‘Sticky’) and ‘debut’ (‘Room of Fools’). If the singles obvious do not abound in the middle section of ‘Eusexua’, ‘Childlike Things’ is a breath of fresh air in the second half of the album and it is therefore our song of the day today.

This different production, marked by an unrecognizable tone of FKA Twigs, is also an anomalous collaboration with North West, one of Kanye West’s 4 children with Kim Kardashian. The 11 -year -old girl had already appeared with Chicago West on a year and called ‘Bomb’. ‘Childlike Things’ is an explosion of Immail soaked and references to Tokyo, which FKA twig uses to return to childhood for a second, in an album loaded with sensuality. Production does not neglect a very James Blake/Feist Circa ‘Limit to Your Love’ piano.

The artist speaks of “supersonic powers” that are “polyphonic”, without giving up the adult world (a gin tonic appears), and with a reference to ‘where the monsters live’ in the chorus. A cross between children’s and adult world perfectly reflected in percussions and synthesizers that could give a commercial surprise to FKA Twigs. Because there is video on the way, right?
