Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s recent embarrassing words about Mexico and Spanish colonization, spoken during a trip to the Latin American country that ended up being canceled after the controversy, continue to resonate.
This Saturday, the popular Mexican rock group Caifanes, well known during the 90s for hits such as ‘Afuera’, ‘Viento’ or ‘The cell that explodes’, which have remained in force to the point of currently exceeding 400 million views on Spotify, responded to Ayuso during their concert in Mexico City.
Saúl Hernández, Caifanes’ vocalist, did not hesitate to interrupt the concert to dedicate a few words to Ayuso, describing her statements as “strange, stupid, but above all very ignorant, that even Hernán Cortés himself is going to feel offended.”
During his visit to Mexico, Ayuso praised Hernán Cortés and described the Latin American country as a “narco-state.” Once back in Spain, he declared that “Mexico did not exist until the Spanish arrived” and reported having suffered a “boycott” during his trip.
Caifanes responded to Ayuso in front of tens of thousands of people: “We are going to tell you, Mrs. Isabel, that Mexico is working to stop being what we are and return to what we were. Mrs. Isabel, in the face of your stupidity, our indifference!” According to elDiario.es, the public filled the venue with cries of “culera” directed at the Madrid leader.
