Nueve Desconocidos, Ares Negrete’s darkwave project, ends 2024 by releasing a new single, the sixth of the year not counting the ‘Sauna Paraíso’ EP with Lucy Morry and Jeans at the Beach. Among these singles are the guitar-driven ‘CKV’, the track-breaker (sinister), ‘Brillar intero’, ‘Celos’ or a makinera cover of ‘Me pongo colorada’ by Papa Levante.
At all times surrendered to the darkness of the night, Nine Unknowns visit a ‘Labyrinth of passions’ in their new release. It also uses its darkwave and electronic side: it almost seems like a Crystal Castles production. It’s the Song of the Day.
In search of their identity (“I don’t know who I was in a long time”), Nine Desconocidos delivers a great piece of gothic techno-pop that delves into its “introspective but danceable” side. The labyrinth is deceptive with its romantic “rose” landscape, but it is a mental trap. The slippery synthesizers of ‘Labyrinth of Passions’ and its forceful synth-punk rhythmic base translate into music the claustrophobic feeling that the lyrics relate, with your gaze fixed on the dance floor.
In the words of Ruta66, in ‘Labyrinth of Passions’ Negrete “explores themes such as identity crisis, persecution mania and the feeling of being constantly judged, but transmitting a message of overcoming and winning in the face of adversity.”
Nueve Desconocidos will present ‘Labyrinth of passions’ and their latest album, ‘Toque de ánimas’ (2023), this Saturday, December 7 at the Heliogàbal in Barcelona. Their concert is part of the AIEnRuta Artists Circuit programming for this month of December. Don’t miss live shows from Júlia Colom, La Trinidad or J Martina either.
On the other hand, Nine Unknowns has just participated in the “Meister of the Week” section of JENESAISPOP, revealing their fascination with the city of Benidorm: “Benidorm is a kind of cyberpunk city” is one of the headlines.
