The great moment of Sword Master

The Maestro Espada brothers have one of the most impressive live performances on the current Spanish scene. We were able to see this at a show they offered at Conde Duque last year, which was breathtaking. At that time they only had a couple of songs uploaded to platforms. Among them was ‘Murciana’, the performance that caught our attention in 2022 due to its cross between folk and electronic music.

However, the lack of repertoire at that time was not a problem. The charm of the duo formed by Alex and Víctor Hernández and the good execution of their minimalist live performance were enough to keep the audience in a deathly silence.

This autumn Sony will finally release their long-awaited debut on September 13th. Their little hit ‘Estrellica’ will be part of the tracklist. In recent months, three more advances have been presented, such as ‘Mayos’, slightly more planetary; ‘La despedía’, more acoustic; and ‘Lirio’, which is the one we selected today as Song of the Day.

Raül Refree is also behind this production, which was intended to serve as a “naturalistic and simple expression of the Murcian orchard”. The absence of classical rhythmic elements and vocal chops were intended to act as a “metaphor for the volatility of love and the changes it professes”.

‘Lirio’ is one of Maestro Espada’s most electronic productions, without giving up an organic element such as the guitar. But it is the voices that make up the alternative rhythm of the song, in the style of Björk’s most ambitious productions, without giving up a classic melody reminiscent of the power ballads of the 80s.

As for the lyrics, in addition to the pertinent floral dedication (“In the morning you are a rose / At noon a carnation / In the afternoon you are a jasmine / And a lily at dusk”), the protagonist is a love with the ability to overwhelm us (“Like mill wheels, you treat my heart / As if it were made of wheat”).

Pre-orders for the precious vinyl are now available via Instagram.
