Francisco Martín, Government delegate in Madrid, has asked Almeida to reconsider the authorization of massive events in the Iberdrola Music space in Madrid as long as he cannot guarantee the “safety” of the attendees. This is precisely the venue where Shakira will carry out her residency, thanks to her Shakira Stadium, next September.
The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, received a letter on Monday afternoon from the Government delegate in which he asked him to “reconsider” the holding of certain events in the Madrid venue. The petition is directed at those situations in which the adequate conditions of “accessibility, mobility and security that a city like Madrid must guarantee to those who attend this type of shows” are not “effectively” met.
Martín points out that this claim is not new and that there are “recent precedents that discouraged the use of that space for events with massive influx of public.” He also cites the “mobility and security problems” that occurred both at Mad Cool and at Harry Styles’ last concert, recalling the “hundreds of people” who “wandered along M-45.” Martín suggests that there is still time to “implement improvement measures” or to “move” the events to other spaces.
In a clear reference to Shakira’s upcoming residency at Iberdrola Music, Francisco Martín has pointed out the inconsistency of Almeida and Ayuso: “It cannot be that they are now facilitating that in a space like Iberdrola Music, where they themselves said that fan phenomenon events could not be held, a series of concerts that have that series of characteristics can now be held.”
