After Steven Drozdguitarist and composer of The Flaming Lipsreleased a statement that was deleted, the band has confirmed that the musician is no longer with them.
Last week, the multi-instrumentalist and songwriter seemingly confirmed his departure from the band in a post on Threads, which he later deleted. In it, the artist declared the following: “They broke up with me, but we’re not going to talk about that. So yes, I’m going to move on.” The band has not made an official announcement, but Drozd, a member of the band since 1991, had been absent from their concerts in recent months following the recent addition of AJ Slaughter.
After these statements, Matthew Duckworth Kirkseydrummer, spoke about Drozd’s departure, stating that the band’s live performance is “better than ever.” He also responded to rumors that the guitarist had been the group’s dominant creative force rather than the leader. Wayne Coyne. “And remember… none of this happens without Wayne. That idea that Steven was THE musical genius and Wayne was a weirdo artist… it’s just not true.” The drummer concluded his statement with a preview of the band’s new music.
