Last July, news broke of C. Tangana’s directorial debut in a film starring his collaborator, guitarist Yerai Cortés, which will premiere this September at the San Sebastian Festival, inaugurating the New Directors Section.
‘Yerai Cortés’ Flamenco Guitar’, signed with C. Tangana’s given name, Antón Alvárez, revolves «around a family secret that has to be told». An additional detail is provided by the official poster designed by Cruz más Cruz and Rubio & del Amo. According to Pepe Cruz, “talking about flamenco with a rocket wrapped in clouds seems to us to be a tremendously powerful metaphor for what this film tells us”.
Today we have announced that ‘Yerai Cortés’ Flamenco Guitar’, produced by Little Spain, will be released in cinemas by the distributor and producer A Contracorriente Films. The date is December 20.
C. Tangana has spoken several times about his intention to enter the world of cinema, especially directing. He does so, for example, in the 2023 documentary he stars in, ‘Esta ambición desmedida’, about the tour of ‘El Madrileño’. Lately, C. Tangana has directed the video for ‘Oliveira Dos Cen Anos’, his anthem for Real Club Celta de Vigo.
C. Tangana has expressed his enthusiasm for having directed a film starring his “favorite artist”, Yerai Cortés, and has declared that ‘La guitarra flamenco de Yerai Cortés’ is nothing less than “the most beautiful thing I have ever done.”
