'Parkour' is Kokoshca's new "shot"

“The fear that one of the two will die” in ‘It’s lucky’ by Kokoshca

‘Youth’, Kokoshca’s latest album, has been presented by singles like ‘Huella de ti’ or ‘Parkour’. But it also has lost gems like ‘It’s a luck’, the beautiful love composition that closes it and that today we choose as Song of the Day. Amaia Tirapu herself tells us the ins and outs of this wonderful mid-tempo close to dream pop, with an ending very exciting: “I see my dreams burn / my youth disappears / I’m not afraid of growing old / I’m afraid that you’re not here.”

Kokoshca perform today, January 18, at the Sala Changó in Madrid. Then Granada, Seville, Lleida, Barcelona, Pamplona, Bilbao, Murcia and Ebrovisión await. Check their website.

Amaia explains: «There is like a common thread in many Kokoshca songs. One of the themes is always love and heartbreak, that thing about a past love that leaves a big mark on you, or something like that. Maybe the characters in ‘It’s Lucky’ are the same characters in ‘Coming Back to the City’. Or those from ‘Huella de ti’. But somewhat older. They are very convinced that one is in the other’s life. “They have a certain nostalgia, and this time something else is added: the fear that one of them will die.”

Regarding the voice of Pepe Mújica, who is precisely about to die, he tells us: «Pepe Mújica’s speech was very good for us, because we started the album with him. And it’s a really cool way to end it too, saying that the best thing is to have little baggage in life, but to have people around you who love you and are always there.

Regarding the production, he cites the references that inspired them, not so common in their repertoire: «We wanted to give the textures a la Battiato, play with more electronic things, like Chromatics. We already did it in ‘Teenage Love’, a single we released. Here we have a vintage touch that has really cooled us. It has a lot of Lynch too, who just died. It’s a song that we love. “Sometimes we doubt if it should have been a single.”
