Christina Aguilera has announced a new project to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her self-titled debut, released on August 25, 1999. ‘Christina Aguilera’ earned Aguilera her first Grammy Award for Best New Artist and produced the hits ‘Genie in a Bottle’, ‘What a Girl Wants’ and ‘I Turn to You’.
In honor of her debut, Aguilera has recorded a live performance singing several of her hits with new arrangements, in collaboration with Spotify, which will be released on September 23 on YouTube and also on Spotify through a six-track EP.
For two performances, Aguilera has enlisted special guests. Sabrina Carpenter will sing with Aguilera on one of the songs, and Machine Gun Kelly on the other. It is not known exactly which song has been assigned to each of them.
Carpenter, arguably the hottest singer of the moment, was thrilled about the collaboration, saying Aguilera was one of her first idols. “When I was 11, I couldn’t get her name (Christina Aguilera) out of my mouth,” she told Rolling Stone. “I grew up listening to her songs.” Carpenter, who was born in May 1999, months before the release of Christina Aguilera, was 11 in 2010, the time of Bionic.
Aguilera has just finished her residency in Las Vegas. As for her new album in English, she says that she has songs, but not a concept. That is, there is still time to listen to it.
