The controversial Daniel Ek will cease to be spotify CEO in 2026

Spotify founder Daniel EK communicates in X who will stop being the company’s CEO. It is unknown if the decision has something to do with the controversy that has surrounded its name in recent months, with respect to its parallel investments in military drones equipped with artificial intelligence. Many artists, such as Xiu Xiu, have felt that people were killing with the money they generated.

Since January 1, 2026, EK will have a position as an executive president, but it will not be the CEO. This function will be played by two co-presidents, Alex Norström-until now commercial director-and Gustav Söderström-now leader of the Product and Technology Unit. In fact, it is reported that these are beginning to assume the new functions.

Daniel EK’s statement indicates: “As executive president, I will dedicate more time to long -term strategies: strategy, capital assignment, regulatory measures and the decisions that will define the next decade for Spotify.”

It also ensures that you want to devote to other businesses. Daniel EK does not mention any of the controversies that have shaken Spotify in recent months.

His businesses regarding war drones have been those who have caused several musicians to abandon Spotify in recent times. Among others, they have been Godspeed You! Black Emperor, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Xiu Xiu, Deerhof or Derdoorian. Massive Attack have also expressed their intention to leave Spotify, although today, its catalog remains.
