Sofia Kourthesis, author of one of the best albums of 2023, ‘Mothers’, and sublime pop electronics hymns such as ‘If you behave beautiful’ or the headline ‘Mothers’, has returned this year with New EP, ‘Back’. This work is dedicated to his mother and also to the LGBTQ+ community “because of the strength we find when we join, no matter gender or social status.”
‘Back’, which obtains its title of the film of the same name by Pedro Almodóvar of 2006, includes the singles ‘Canela pure’ and ‘United’ with Daphni (parallel project of Caribou), but today we chose as a song of the day his current single, ‘Heart’.
‘Heart’ is one of those wonderful pop electronics hymns by Sofia Kourthesis. This time, an emotional Ambient-House style production, guided by a hypnotic rhythmic pulse that is intertwined with synthetic melodies of liquid texture, wraps a love story that resists distance.
For Kourthesis, that distance “eats the Cora and hurts”, but the strength of ‘heart’ resides in his conviction that “nothing will separate us.” Although the artist may be talking about her own life as an artist based in Berlin who travels to Peru -su homeland- for family ties, the lyrics are universal enough to resonate in any listener who lives a similar situation, of romantic distance, family or friendship.
‘Heart’ chooses to tell this story a precious melody, of the best ever written by kourthesis, and also interpreted with more conviction than ever. No “Altamar” trip, however turbulent, could knock out this song.
