The 2024 Sitges Festival brings together the best fantasy films of the moment

Once again, from the October 3rd to October 13thhe Sitges Film Festival 2024 will bring together the best fantasy and horror films of the current moment. And, as usual, there will be no shortage of big names invited.

For some, the course starts in September, but for lovers of celluloid, of genre and beyond genres, the new exercise does not kick off until the silhouette of King Kong appears above the church of Sitges: a now mythical image that each year draws applause and cheers at the start of each screening of the most important fantasy film festival in the world. No more, no less. Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, which will take place from October 3 to 13another year arrives full of stimulating proposals, famous names and illustrious guests.

The programme, as usual, is as extensive as it is varied. To mention just a few outstanding films, in the Official Section we will have “Different Man”A24’s new fable in thriller style and with echoes of Charlie Kaufman; “The Devil’s Bath”by the Austrian duo Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala (“Good Night, Mom,” “The Lodge”), close to “The Witch” and which promises atmosphere in abundance; the French futuristic film “Planet B”with a powerful female cast headed by Adele Exarchopoulos; the also gala “Meanwhile On Earth”original approach to ufological phenomena; “Fréwaka”one of folk horror Irishman who shook Locarno; or the delirious feast stop motion of “Sanatorium Under The Sign Of The Hourglass”.

The new Sitges Collection Section, for its part, will open with “The substance” of Coralie Fargeat (“Revenge”), starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid, which caused a sensation at the last edition of Cannes; and will also include the long-awaited prequel to “The Devil’s Seed”, “Apartment 7A”. Other titles to consider are “The second act”of the incombustible Quentin Dupieux; “The Soul Eater”the new thing from Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (“À l’intérieur”, “Livide”); the Spanish “The Cry”with a script by Isabel Peña (“The Beasts”) and “Rich Flu”from the director of “The Hole”, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia; either “Maldoror”police thriller of Fabrice du Welz. And all this without entering into the always stimulating selection of Noves Visions or the sections dedicated to the documentary format, animation or the recovery of classics such as “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” either “Freaks”of Tod Browningleitmotiv of this edition.

The festival will close “Never let go”a supernatural tale starring Halle Berry and directed by the French Alexandre Ajawho will receive the Time Machine Award. Other award winners attending Sitges will be Mike Flanagan, Nick Frost, Heather Langenkamp, ​​Christophe Gans, Fabio Testi and actor Geoffrey Rush, winner of the Oscar for “Shine”who will receive the Grand Honorary Prize of the contest.
