Teyana Taylor triumphs in some BET that exalt her as an icon

Teyana Taylor and Clipse have been the big winners of the BET Awards 2026, the awards that celebrate the excellence of the African-American community in music, film, television and sports, winning three awards each at the gala held this Sunday, June 28 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Taylor, who this year received a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for her performance in ‘One Battle After Another’, has won the awards for Best Actress, Best Video Director and Fashion Visionary. In addition, she received the honorary Icon of the Year award from Janet Jackson, a recognition that made her burst into tears on stage.

For its part, Clipse has taken home the awards for Album of the Year for ‘Let God Sort Em Out’, Best Group and Best Collaboration for ‘Chains & Whips’, alongside Kendrick Lamar. Lamar was another of the big names of the night, winning two awards, including Best Male Hip Hop Artist. Kehlani has also won two awards, recognized as Best Female R&B Artist and for Video of the Year thanks to ‘Folded’.

Among the rest of the winners, Olivia Dean stands out as Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Leon Thomas as Best Male R&B Artist, Cardi B as Best Female Hip Hop Artist and Michael B. Jordan as Best Actor.

The ceremony also paid tribute to Ms. Lauryn Hill with a tribute performance. The author of ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ took the stage to thank her for the recognition and share a few words with the audience.

In addition, the gala remembered D’Angelo, who died this year, with an emotional tribute in which artists such as RAYE and Ari Lennox, among others, participated.
