Teddy Swims holds the biggest hit single of 2024 in the United States, according to the annual report published by Billboard. ‘Lose Control’ has spent 45 weeks in the top 10 of the US singles chart, the Billboard Hot 100: only ‘Blinding Lights’ by The Weeknd is ahead of it, adding 57 weeks between 2020 and 2021.
Billboard’s annual list is compiled using three metrics: radio, streaming and digital sales. Swims’ lead is surprising because Shaboozey really seemed like the king of 2024 in the United States: his hit ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ has spent 15 weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, more than any other song in history performed on lonely, with no guest artists (it has not surpassed the 19-week record of ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus).
‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ finally takes No. 1 on Billboard’s digital sales chart. Without a doubt, Shaboozey has been the great beneficiary of the ‘Cowboy Carter’ era, ahead of Beyoncé herself.
In streaming it leads ‘I Remember Everything’ by Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves. But ‘Lose Control’ prevails in general, reigning on three platforms: Hot 100, Radio Songs and Adult Airplay.
The most successful artist of 2024 in the United States, in general, has been Taylor Swift. No artist from the United States has had more songs in the Billboard this year, a total of 56, nor has she entered the top 40 more times, a total of 49, nor has she scored more top 10s, a total of 18.
