Kanye West had managed to get to number 1 with each and every one of his albums in the United States… until now. ‘Vultures 2’, his new work with Ty Dolla $ign, enters at number 2, for the first time in his career, while Taylor Swift remains at number 1 with ‘The Tortured Poets Department’.
‘Vultures 2’ opens in the United States with 107,000 equivalent units. Of these units, 50.44 million belong to streaming reproductions and 60,500 to sales, specifically to downloads. In comparison, ‘Vultures 1’ debuted with 148,000 equivalent units, positioning itself among the top 10 debuts of 2024 in the United States, specifically in 9th place.
Taylor Swift, meanwhile, has managed to sell 142,000 equivalent units of an album released in April that has already sold 5,307,000 units between its different editions and variations. Swift scores her 14th week at number 1 on the US album charts; only Eminem interrupted her streak by entering the top spot with ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)’.
Swift has once again played her card of releasing a new variation of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ to stay on the top of the US charts. Exactly one edition of the album to which the audio of the first draft of ‘My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toy’ has been added was put on sale on her website on the same day as ‘Vultures 2’, by the way, a Sunday.
From ‘Vultures 2’ Kanye and Ty Dolla can celebrate that the song ‘Field Trip’ in particular is winning over the audience. Terrible news for Geoff Barrow of Portishead, on the other hand, as it is the song that samples ‘Machine Gun’ without his permission.
