The IFPI, an official body of the music industry worldwide, has published its usual study on 2024. Although a little late and we had all noticed, ‘The tortured poets department’ has been the most popular album of the year. In addition, Taylor Swift is for the 5th not consecutive time, the most successful artist in the world.
In the list that brings together sales and mainstream, that is, all the formats, the Top 3 is completed by two women: Billie Eilish and Sabrina Carpenter with their last releases. As a curiosity, observing the different published tables, there are curiosities depending on the format, with the proviso that Taylor Swift sends in all. It is number 1 in sales, vinyl and streaming.
On the contrary, the top 10 of sales is plagued with South Korean projects by the force of the CD in these countries. In streaming we find strong artists strongly with the profile of SZA and Travis Scott, and the old albums of the Folkies Noah Kahan and Benson Boone.
As for vinyl, apart from the fact that Taylor Swift appears 5 times in the Top 10, we find the only appearance of ‘Brat’ and a relic as ‘Rumours’ of Fleetwood Mac, which has been on lists practically since it came out in 1977.
