Taylor Swift achieves her 10th number 1 in the US with ‘Cruel Summer’

Taylor Swift achieves the 10th number 1 single of her career in the United States with ‘Cruel Summer’. The song, originally from ‘Lover’ (2019), had already reached third place on the Billboard Hot 100, and this had been her highest. Taylor has managed to secure the number 1 hit for ‘Cruel Summer’ this week by releasing three different versions of the song.

‘Cruel Summer’ has become Taylor Swift’s big global hit of 2023 and, surely driven by its position on ‘The Eras Tour’ setlist, reaches the top. It must be remembered that this number 1 also belongs to St. Vincent, since she is co-author.

With ‘Cruel Summer’, Taylor has 10 number 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, a figure that makes her tie with Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder. This is the updated list of artists who have accumulated the most number 1 singles on the US chart:

20, The Beatles
19, Mariah Carey
14, Rihanna
13, Drake
13, Michael Jackson
12, Madonna
12, The Supremes
11, Whitney Houston
10, Janet Jackson
10, Taylor Swift
10, Stevie Wonder

Furthermore, ‘Cruel Summer’ joins the list of songs that have taken the longest to reach number 1 in the United States, in its case, 4 years, one month and three weeks, slightly less than ‘Red Red Wine’ by UB40 , but still far from the 5 years of ‘When I’m with You’ by Sheriff, the six of ‘Die for You’ by The Weeknd and Ariana Grande, and the 19 years of ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ by Mariah Carey.

Taylor Swift and ‘Cruel Summer’ producer Jack Antonoff have celebrated ‘Cruel Summer’ number 1 together:
