The promotion of ‘Confessions II’ continues with an unexpected and – again – unannounced move. FIFA publishes an edit of ‘Read My Lips’, the Madonna and Feid collaboration that was featured in the Tribeca short. However, this version is 2 minutes shorter than the album version; it does not appear on Madonna’s or Feid’s profiles as a single; nor has it been promoted on too many “Friday News” playlists.
At the moment it is an exclusive from the FIFA album that also includes ‘Dai Dai’ and other songs by LISA, Rolling Stones, Andrea Bocelli with David Guetta, Ava Max, cent and the mother.
‘Read My Lips’ is one of those vigorous productions by Tainy, one of the great geniuses of Latin music of the last five years, very much in tune with what he revealed in his notable album ‘DATA’. Any style can emerge at any time, without having to play reggaeton. The song is divided in two, almost radically.
The song begins with Madonna’s spiteful verse immersed in an almost country guitar line, not so far from what the artist recorded in ‘Don’t Tell Me’ and especially ‘Hollywood’. The bass drum gains strength in the chorus, taking the song to the dance floor, a different one from what was exhibited in ‘Confessions I’, but a dance floor nonetheless. Moloko and Basement Jaxx’s more “Latin house” moments may come to mind.
On the contrary, Feid’s stanza radically changes the third, as if to show his vision. The protagonism is in the hands of a kind of synthesized, sampled and looped winds, while Feid defends himself against accusations of infidelity in a Spanish full of slang, from “no se enzorre” to “me manda pa la mier.” By then, there is no trace of the guitar line, and the song approaches Rio funk.
With as much commercial potential as ‘Faz gostoso’, although too short, with only two choruses without time for a repetition of the same, much less a sad “middle eight” that finishes integrating everything, the song promises hooks and fun, despite all its bitterness, at the World Cup Final on July 17. There, Madonna will perform alongside Shakira and BTS. It seems clear that this is his destiny, just as ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ was the Super Bowl.
At the same time, an exclusive bonus track for Absolut is being previewed, which in the umpteenth variant of the album ‘Confessions II’, will sound right after ‘Read My Lips’. It will be called ‘Hot Sauce’ and in this case it does taste more like that than anything, a bonus track.
