SVSTO, the solo project of Carla Parmenter, formerly Las Bistecs, publishes second single after her debut with ‘Mil €’, one of the Best Songs of 2024. It has been the triumphant return, to the rhythm of electroclash, of those acid lyrics and biting that the authors of ‘Oferta’ (2016) knew how to do, loaded with politics and humor, and which left us orphaned when they separated in 2018.
In this second proposal, presented live for the first time weeks ago, in the UPLOAD room in Barcelona, within the solidarity programming for the victims of DANA, SVSTO becomes a “terrorist” on the track, loaded with a “card bank” that you will not hesitate to use.
Uploaded to an electronic production made for voguing, by Alejandro Da Rocha and Alex Ferrer, Carla sweeps the club dressed as “Humana”, converted into an “asphalt woman” – never from the countryside – ready to burn “La Junquera” or the “Madame Jasmine”, from where they will kick him out. Catalonia or, more specifically, Barcelona, serve as a backdrop.
The lyrics of ‘En la pista’ are once again an endless number of quotable phrases: here Maria Antonieta and Miquel Iceta, rhyming, or Anna Wintour receive indifferently. Above all, ‘On the Track’ is an affirmation of SVSTO’s authority in the pop world, a confirmation of how necessary she is: she is “queen” and “head of state.” Finally, he leaves a vindictive message: “I am the thing that scares straight people the most / I am very scary because I know what I want.”
The recorded version of ‘On the Track’ has been premiered in Shanghai. «The dance floor is a very important place in queer spaces. I have gone out to party a lot in LGTBIQ+ places and, since they are safe spaces, the dance floor is a place where people give themselves completely, and where they learn the most important thing in life: to have a diva attitude,” she explains. «This doesn’t happen on hetero tracks. “It’s where creativity goes to die.” The SVSTO album comes out in 2025.
