Stivijoes is making his way as one of the most promising voices in alternative music in Spain. Until recently, he was selling nougat in a shop full-time. Shortly after, his song ‘Terapia’, dedicated to his father, went viral on TikTok. Last week, he made his debut on the Nagusia stage at Bilbao BBK Live. ‘Solo’ is our Song of the Day.
Born in Barcelona and with strong ties to Galicia, having spent his childhood in O Saviñao, the 24-year-old has seen his life change since the viral release of ‘Terapia’ on social media, initially conceived as his farewell to music. Since then, thousands of people have discovered his personal and sensitive style, which may remind us of the more introspective Sen Senra.
Over deep voices that repeat what one most needs to hear (“I’m fine”), Stivi begins to list some of his greatest fears, regrets and worries, such as having been “locked up in an apartment that never wanted me” or not having been “half of what you were to me.”
He also nods to his biggest theme with one of the song’s most poignant lines: “I haven’t gone to therapy yet, what I hide scares me.” “I’m afraid of being alone,” he repeats in the chorus. Although the subject matter may seem heavy, Stivi presents it in a very digestible and even catchy way, thanks to a subtle production that only grows and grows until it is released in a cathartic ending.
