Sprints carry vanity in ‘Descartes’

From Dublin, Sprints published one of the best albums of 2024, especially in the world of rock, ‘Letter To Self’. They won’t wait long to deliver the second: it’s ready. September 26 is the date chosen for a ‘All that is over’ that, according to a press release, “will push the dynamics of the band to a richer territory, finding new spaces and nuances, while it will also be harder than ever.”

The first single is characterized by its continuity, with the particularity that is called “Descartes”, making us see that in this case the message will prevail over the form. Sprints have wanted to change the “I think, then I exist,” for “I speak, then I understand.”

What is the ultimate meaning of all this? This is explained by the leader Karla Chubb: «Much of the negativity that is seen in the world has its origin in the vanity and in the ego that your beliefs or your identity are more important than those of others. ‘Descartes’ explores the idea that writing for me is not only a tool to make music, but a tool to process the world ».

The theme is also inspired by a phrase of Rachel Cusk’s ‘outline’ novel, “Vanity is the curse of our culture.” In fact, it is the first line of a song that has a chorus as unlikely as:
«Descartes, Descartes
Discord, Discard
How do You Heal to tortured Heart?
