Spotify has published the lists with the most listened to music on the platform in 2024. Women triumph worldwide, leading the three main lists (artist, album and song) for the first time since 2014, the year in which Spotify began to disseminate the data. In this way, Taylor Swift repeats as the most listened to artist in the world.
This is followed by The Weeknd, Bad Bunny and Drake in second, third and fourth place. The Puerto Rican has only dropped one place in the ranking compared to last year, despite not having had any great launches. The female presence is also noticeable in this list. While in 2023 only Karol G accompanied Taylor, this year there are also Billie Eilish, in fifth place, and Ariana Grande, in ninth.
‘Espresso’ is officially the biggest hit song of the year. In second place, ‘Beautiful Things’ by Benson Boone, one of the first hits of 2024. ‘BIRDS OF A FEATHER’, ‘Gata Only’ by Floyymenor and Cris Mj and ‘Lose Control’ by Teddy Swims complete the top 5. The The only Taylor Swift song that has made it onto the most listened to list is ‘Cruel Summer’, which became a viral hit after being released on 2019.
This is a surprise, given that ‘THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT’ has been the most listened to album of the year. Eight of the most played albums of 2024 are by women: ‘TTPD’ is followed by ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT’, ‘Short n’Sweet’, ‘TOMORROW WILL BE NICE’ and ‘eternal sunshine’, which form the top 5. Taylor completely triumphs, also placing ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ (#6) and ‘Lover’ (#8) among the most successful albums. SZA drops at number 7 with ‘SOS’, while The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’, released in 2016, lands at number 10.

In Spain, women do not receive as much attention. Karol G is once again the only one to make it onto the list of the 10 most listened to artists, in eighth position. However, it dominates in the other two categories: ‘If Before You Had Known’ has been the most listened to song in our country and ‘MAÑANA SERÁ BONITO’ has been the most successful LP. No other women appear in any of the three categories.
On the other hand, Bad Bunny leaves the top 1 of artists after four years and is replaced by Myke Towers, becoming the most listened to artist in our country in 2024. Lola Indigo and SAIKO are the Spanish artists that are most heard in Spain. Rosalía is the most listened to Spanish artist in the world, along with Rels B, who is the most successful male artist outside of Spain.
