Thayil also explores how the members’ cultural roots (their own Indian heritage and Japan’s Yamamoto) brought a unique dimension to the group’s sound and identity.
This announcement comes a few weeks after the Seattle-based band enters the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2025. Considered one of the pioneers of grunge, soundgarden was born in 1984. But it would not be until 1994 when they achieved international success with their album “Superunknown”. Specifically, thanks to two bombshells in the form of a song titled “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman.” Although the band broke up in 1997, they would get back together in 2010 to continue their career.
