Sophie Ellis-Bextor prepares new bangers

The revival of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ continues. The song rises to number 4 on Spotify UK, number 75 in the United States and number 91 globally. Today, Friday, the 2001 classic is expected to return to the official British singles chart after more than twenty years.

The success of ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ in 2024 is due, as many of you know, to the appearance of the song in the film ‘Saltburn’.

Given the return of “Murder” to the charts, there are those who believe that Sophie should make her definitive return to dance music. And it seems that things are going that way: the musician Richard Jones, Ellis-Bextor’s husband, has confirmed that Sophie has already met with Richard X and Cathy Dennis to work on new material. “Bangers are coming” were her words.

“Don’t worry, Sophie has been talking about this long before what’s happening with ‘Murder’, weeks before ‘Salturn’ we already had Cathy Dennis and Richard X at home,” Jones replied to a fan. Neither are strangers to working with Sophie: Dennis was credited on ‘Catch You’, the opening track on Ellis-Bextor’s 2007 album, ‘Trip the Light Fantastic’, while Richard was the producer of a 2011 Sophie single, ‘Starlight’.

Richard ‘The Love Invention’ is one of the best albums of 2023. Dennis, for her part, needs no introduction, she is the author of ‘Ca n’t Get You Out of My Head’ by Kylie Minogue and ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears. For her part, Sophie already returned to dance last year with ‘Hypnotized’.
