Refined sound and adaptation say with the IER-Z1R headphones
Offering a truly immersive musical experience, the IER-Z1R headphones feature a hybrid HD driver system comprising three models newly developed by Sony. As the sound, quality and sound consistency of each driver are critical to the sound of the headphone, an advantage of Sony-designed drivers is that they ensure the preservation of the sound signature from the design stage to the finished product.
Excellent materials used in the dynamic drivers of the IER-Z1R headphones
The 5mm dynamic driver is constructed with a novel aluminum-plated LCP (liquid crystal polymer) diaphragm and an external magnetic circuit that allows it to reproduce the ideal frequency response of up to 100 kHz. By strategically placing the 5mm dynamic driver coaxially against the sound path, it manages to bring the sound of the super-tweeter to the user’s ear canal. A frequency response of up to 100 kHz gives the listener the feeling of the atmosphere of a concert hall, anywhere and at any time.
The 12mm dynamic driver diaphragm features a very light, yet very rigid, magnesium alloy dome. The edge of the dome is made with aluminum-plated LCP, which offers flexibility for optical bass reproduction and high internal loss. These materials work in sync to offer the listener great details and crystal clear sound.
In addition, the balanced armature diaphragm for reproducing high frequency sound is made of magnesium alloy. Working together with the newly developed silver-plated copper voice coil and gold-plated terminals, they increase the driving force of the balanced armature to faithfully reproduce sound without losing any of the micro-signals.
The perfectly controlled acoustics of the IER-Z1R are achieved thanks to the refined phase structure featuring a magnesium alloy internal chassis that offers the listener a natural sound with a precise imaging sensation that they have never experienced. The three drivers (5mm, 12mm and balanced armature) are housed in an internal chassis that acts as an optimal conduit for sound. The sound coming from each driver blends seamlessly into the sound path, ensuring ideal phase response and clear separation. Magnesium alloy also eliminates unnecessary vibrations due to its high rigidity and internal losses.
We have applied advanced spatial sound control technology to perfectly control the airflow at the rear of the speakers. Ventilation is controlled by connecting the acoustic tube to the extended acoustic cavity behind the driver. This Sony-exclusive control method reproduces a wide soundstage with rich, accurate midrange notes, a harmonious sound signature from low to high frequencies, and smooth sound reproduction throughout.
Filter designed with high grade elements
Sony’s dedicated audiophile-grade film capacitor for the cutoff filter circuitry has been used in the IER-Z1R, achieving perfected sound with low distortion. This capacitor was developed after numerous tests. In addition, a solder specially developed by Sony has also been used to minimize signal path loss and ensure contact purity.
Balanced connection for great sound quality using the supplied cable
With the standard 4.4mm 5-pin balanced cable – or others – you achieve a high-quality balanced connection. Silver-plated oxygen-free copper is used in the supplied cable. Sony has converted the plating structure of the mmcx connector and terminal to silver plating with a primer instead of the generally used magnetic material (e.g. nickel) that disrupts signal flow.
The supplied cable also features natural silk strands that reduce touch noise as an insulator and vibration damper. Last but not least, the supplied cable features a pair of twisted cables, which help reduce signal losses in transmission, thus preserving signal purity and achieving intense high-resolution sound.

On the other hand, it is possible to purchase other cables designed with KIMBER KABLE®: you will have other options to enjoy high-resolution sound.
Comfort is the key to enjoying the true experience
Using the database of earpad shapes we’ve collected over decades of research, the IER-Z1R has been designed to be comfortable, yet stable, thanks to its refined chassis shape, 13 eartip options, and pre-wired hooks. formed. This exquisite pair of headphones can also boast of a zirconium alloy outer casing that ensures greater hardness, corrosion resistance and durability. The front plate of the IER-Z1R features an elegant “Perlage” pattern, which will allow you to distinguish them at first glance. The IER-Z1R is meticulously handcrafted using the finest materials by skilled craftsmen in Japan, allowing audiophiles to fully immerse themselves in their favorite songs, just as the artists and sound engineers intended them.
