The Kohlberg Kravis Roberts Proisraelí Fund (KKR) is behind many of the main music festivals in our country, according to a new report of El Salto. Among these, Arenal Sound, Sónar, Viña Rock or FIB.
It all started in 2024, the year in which KKR acquired Supersruct Entertainment, a group behind 80 festivals around the world. In our country, Sónar, Viña Rock, Resurrection Festo, Monegros Desert Festival, Arenal Sound and FIB work under their wing. Therefore, since last year they work under Kkr’s wing.
In addition to its activity in media conglomerates, KKR also does business through real estate promotion in territories occupied by Israel in Palestine. This would be done through the German group Axel Springer, of which KKR is the main investor and who owns media such as Bild, Die Welt or Business Insider.
On the other hand, Henry Kravis and George Roberts are those behind Kkr. The first of these, as indicated in El Salto, contributed a million dollars to the first inauguration of Donald Trump in 2016, in addition to being known as an important donor in different cultural initiatives promoted by Israel.
Sónar has published an official statement in response to criticism for his alleged association to the Israeli Fund. The message, published in Catalan, Spanish and English, says: «Sónar we are a platform that promotes diversity, inclusion and respects the freedom of expression of its artists, participants and collaborators. Sónar’s team has always worked with the premise of favoring respect for universal human rights. The festival firmly condemns all kinds of violence. Since its foundation more than 30 years ago, we host local and global cultural expressions that have their natural space in Sónar to project the voice of their communities ».
